Cortisol Blocking Supplements for Weight Loss?

By Michael Collins

...............................................................................

I was thinking about buying CortiSlim- the weight loss pill. Do you think it’s worth it?

No. It sucks. Really.

About a month ago, a client I’m training also asked about CortiSlim. I told her it sucks.

She bought it anyway!

Why? Probably because I just left it at “it sucks” and didn’t undo the brain washing from the commercial she had seen. It’s funny how sometimes bullsh*t wins out over reason- just because you WANT the bullsh*t to be true.

Let me clear some up some of this garbage spewed by the commercials.

Cortisol is a hormone released by the adrenal glands during times of mental or physical stress. This includes being late for work, running to catch the bus, and staying up late to study for final exams the next day.

Everyone's body releases cortisol. So why isn’t everyone in the world obese?

Could it be there’s more to it then just cortisol?

Here’s the deal. Cortisol is released in small amounts throughout the day. It actually serves some beneficial purposes, that's why the body produces it. Cortisol breaks down lipids and muscle fiber during periods of starvation (to keep you alive). It also plays a role in immune response to infection.

So then where does all this weight loss from blocking cortisol talk come from?

As usual, savvy business men stumble upon a piece of questionable research, and formulate a product around it. Then they market it.

(Quick food metabolism lesson)

When you eat food, you’re getting protein/ fat/ carbs. The digestive system takes over, breaks down the food info smaller molecules and sent to various places in the body.

Yeah, so?

Well, when cortisol is raised above normal levels- like during exams week, and you’re not moving much, WHERE and HOW that food is distributed in the body changes.

The calories from the fat/ protein/ carbs will shift toward fat storage- especially around the belly (where the cortisol receptors love to deposit fat).  The amount of fat storage is obviously worse when calories are greater, and no exercise is performed to burn the excess calories off.

Sounds bad right? Well… hold on. Look at the context….

Stressful situation + excess calories + no exercise performed to burn them off!

Instead of taking a pill that has no scientific backing, we could easily come up with better approaches to each situation (and they're free!)

1) To mellow down stressful situation you could try simple deep breathing. Often, this is enough to relax the mind and stop the stress cycle. If you're in a really tense state, try some meditation or yoga.

2) If you're taking in excess calories, you know what to do: lower your intake. Simple. If you need some help, you could try the trick we wrote about HERE, or you could even invest in our book Black Book of Secrets which covers 61 fat loss tips, tricks and techniques.

3) If you're not exercising, start!  Getting the body moving and the heart pumping increases the feel good hormones, releases an influx of relaxation hormones, and of course will burn off some calories!

Now that you're armed with some better info and an accurate vision of what goes on inside your body, would you want to go out and buy CortiSlim?  Of course not!

"But.. but... will it help me lose those last 10 lbs?"

I’ve seen no studies nor anecdotal evidence that show the product is an effective fat burner. Apparently neither has the FTC, which has CortiSlim "Under Stress".

Get Thoroughly Acquainted with Your Food for the Best Weight Loss Results

What do you think of that diet where you eat certain foods based on your blood type?

I’ve always been told to get a six- pack you need to do a lot of abs work with high reps. Would you agree?

Do I need supplements to lose weight?

Is it possible to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

I’ve got fat located in the area of my body where my arm meets my shoulder, and I can’t get rid of it.  Are there any exercises in particular that would help improve that? Or what about any spot reducing supplements?

I know I should be having some protein and carbs after a weights workout, but what about after cardio? I've heard that you should wait 2 hours before eating.

You mentioned the benefits of scheduling a "cheat meal" into your eating program at least once per week. Is there a best time to eat a cheat meal?

Should I be counting my grams of fat, sugar, and calories?

What can I do to flatten my lower abs? I've been doing crunches and hanging leg raises for the last year, but nothing seems to help.
