Can You Really Burn Fat Just By Drinking Water?

Michael Collins:  With over 75% of our body made up of water there is no denying the need to remain hydrated (drinking water) at all times.

If you are following a fat loss program, you will want to consume more water if only for the added calorie burning benefits. Here's a great excerpt from Eugene's great article "12 Ways to Turbo- Charge Your Fat Loss":

 

"Drink more water. Although a recent study suggested that drinking the standard "8 glasses" or 64 oz of water touted by experts is not necessary for health, forget about it.

 

We're dealing purely with fat loss; moreover, ways to maximize it. In my experience (and in the collective experience of other fitness professionals), I've found that there is a direct, inverse correlation between water consumption and fat loss - the more water a client drinks, the more fat they lose.

 

Ellington Darden suggests that superhydration with chilled water may be effective in fat loss due to your body having to warm the water to body temperature in order to use it in your cells. The net effect: about a calorie burned per oz of water. Dr. Darden suggests that his recommendation of drinking a gallon of chilled water will burn about 130 calories."
 

What other benefits are there to drinking water?

 

By remaining hydrated (drinking more water) you will have more energy and this will allow you to perform better at the gym or your chosen exercise program.  It will also allow you to recover faster after a workout and reduce the chance of injury.

 

Have a glass of water before you go to bed at night and you should find you have increased energy when you wake up in the morning.

Also - You should have access to water when you are exercising and sip regularly from it. This will help you to have a better workout and have more energy throughout your session.


We are constantly losing water throughout the day and even at night while we sleep. To remain hydrated we need to replace this water by drinking sufficient quantities so we never get thirsty.

 

You should carry a bottle of water around with you- especially during workouts or hot weather. If you are living in a hot climate you will need to consume more to compensate for the additional loss due to perspiration.

 

By the way, if you are consuming alcohol (which is a no- no for fat loss) or caffeine you will need additional water to compensate for the diuretic effect that these have on the body.

 

It is better to sip water constantly throughout the day, rather than try to meet your minimum requirements by drinking a lot all at one time. For a great, easy way to track water consumption, make sure to check out Eugene's technique here.

If you feel thirsty then you are already getting dehydrated and your body is telling you to do something about it.


The problem with many people is their misunderstanding with what is suitable to drink.  There are so many flavored drinks available that people resort to these in preference to drinking water alone. Water doesn't have all the added sugars, preservatives and colorings that are detrimental to your health.

It's a shame that most people live on a daily basis with less water than they should be having and that is why many people feel lethargic.

What do you think of that diet where you eat certain foods based on your blood type?

 

I’ve always been told to get a six- pack you need to do a lot of abs work with high reps. Would you agree?
